It seems like someone else had the same problem a few months back ???
I think his problem was engine heat melted part of the wire harness ???

You posted this on two different forums. Problem is you have different info in the other post, indicating the "SECURITY" light came on a while back. Hard to get good responses when all the info isn't in one place. When I get back to my PC (on a phone right now) I'll merge the two threads to help you get a thorough response, based on all the info.

Re: 96 Chevy Camaro Z28

Maybe I should start over, I had drove my Camaro for years never a problem then the security light suddenly came on but it still started and ran fine. After a few months I was driving it, I parked outside a carwash, didn't take the car thru the car wash, just parked beside it, with it running, when I came out it acted like it was starving for fuel, (had a half tank) then it suddenly died and would crank but not start. I replaced the battery and nothing, still cranked but not start. Was getting no spark, so checked the ICM and it was blown replaced it but every time we turned on the key it would blow the ICM. We were told to replace the key, did that made no difference, still no spark and it still cranks over but will not start.

Re: 96 Chevy Camaro Z28

Basic questions, but they have to be asked:

Have you scanned it for codes?

Have you checked the fuel pressure?

Replacing the ignition key will not cure a blown fuse. You have to look at the other devices that are on the same circuit as the ICM - ignition coil and crankshaft position sensor.

Here's a way to check the coil, courtesy of Shoebox:

http://shbox.com/1/coil_testing.jpg

If the coil is OK, replace the fuse, and before turning the ignition to "start", pull the harness connector off the CKP sensor.

The "SECURITY" light comes on because a component in the system has failed, and the PCM is bypassing the security system. Again, refer to Shoebox's writeup:
