95' Z28 engine

Ok guys my car needs lifters, when i start it, it'll tap until they pump themselves up i assume. when i do it I wanna put a cam, lifters, roller rockers, valve springs, headers and nitrous. I have decided to pull the engine, so i'm going to put a new clutch in it just to be sure it's good. What else do you guys think I should do to it while the engine is out. should i pull the heads and do some mild porting? The engine is an AC Delco Reman bottom end with about 25,000 miles, it was in the car when i got it. This is my daily driver but i'm gonna race it on the weekends. I would like some opinions on what parts i should use, i'm thinking of like a 125-150 shot of nitrous. I only wanna do this project once so i wanna do it right but money is still a concern. Thanks in advance

I think you would be fine with that depending on the size of the cam. I've got the cc501 in my engine with stock heads and intake with a 100 shot of nitrous and it runs very nice. I have the Spec stage 2 clutch and i have no problems daily driving it and racing it when the track is open.

How big of a cam are you going? Don't forget pushrods when buying your valvetrain.

Don't try to port the heads yourself. You will end up doing more harm than good.

Let us know your budget and we can make some recommendations.

well i haven't decided on a cam yet. I want it to be a good daily driver but still tear things up, thats kinda why I'm here. As far as a budget it depends but i'm thinking $2000-2500 as of now. Maybe I could find a set of used headers to free up some money in other places. What kind of headers do u guys think I should go with and what top end parts

You can find plenty of used parts in the for sale section. For headers you can get pacesetter or hookers cheap enough. Just make sure they are coated.

Cams can also be found used, just make sure that the lobes are good and it works with a 95 since you need a longer dowel pin.

For top end, go with CC pro mag 1.6RR, PAC beehives, chromemoly pushrods and ARP 7/16" studs.

Coated headers won't rust after a couple weeks.

95+ in the F-bodies had the longer dowel pin.

I don't think they had a pin at all. It was just for the optispark.

Ditto. Don't forget a good set of LS7 lifters. Best bang for the buck in my opinion. If it were me I'd go with a set of used LE2 heads off of the used parts section and get an LE1 cam from Lloyd. Send the intake off to Lloyd for porting and get a used 58mm TB on it. That should set you up real nice and still come in around your price range. Regardless of the cam you pick though a used set of LE2 heads would be a good route to go. By the way the PAC1218 springs are what you want to keep the price down.
