I have ran it without covers. It does have 6” rods I don’t know if that means anything with clearance issues. I’ll remove valve covers again to see.

The rod length does change some of the geometry in the block. There would have been a need to clearance the block and possibly the oil pan, in addition I have heard there can be clearance issues with the cam shaft. While not out of the realm of possibility, I would think if one of the rods were hitting things, that you would have been in a world of hurt after running the engine for less than a couple of minutes.

If motor makes this kind of noise with valve covers off and RR are not flying around...you need to drop pan, rotate motor over by hand and look for contact

on a stock crank motor (355). IDK if a 6" rod is a problem. on the longer stroke 383 crank it is as block clearance is required
Have someone turn the motor over by hand while you listen from underneath to hear if there is contact noise. Would be easier to turn over engine if plugs were pulled

Hey guys I was getting ready to lift up the motor when I saw the ring around the flywheel that the starter uses to start shift I don’t know if that could be a problem? And it’s raining so can’t do anymore today.

Also the show of movement shows in all 4 openings on the flywheel in equal length about 1/4 to 1/2 inch and by shift I could NOT get it to move personaly

Btw it’s not stock crank and I’m running arp rod bolts. I’m not sure what crank was put into the motor but I’m sure it’s good info to have so I’m gonna try to get ahold of the engine builder. Just been so long I don’t know if he will remember
but gonna pull motor get rebuilt again
