95 Z EGR removal
95 Z EGR removal
What are the gains from removing the EGR system from a 95 Z with an LT-1?
Do I need to make any changes in the computer? Plugs for manifolds? What all needs to go?
Thanks in advance, Charles

like shoebox said there is no real value in removing the egr. if you want to you will need block off plates for the intake and one for the passengers side headder or manifold. if you remove it you will also need to have the egr deleted from the ecm, if you dont it will set an egr funtion code. mine i deleted for no good reason. i got rid of air, egr, asr, abs and evap when i did my motor swap to get rid of some of the mess and make it look a little cleaner under the hood.
Great info guys. The main reason I was considering pulling it is because everytime it comes on, I get an "SES" light. I have software and cables to check it but I'm new to the whole computer data thing and was trying to eliminate the problem.
If the SES light comes on when the EGR duty cycle goes above 0, its most likely the code for the EGR vacuum solenoid. Is that the code your getting? Have you checked the solenoid?
Wart Hog:
If you don't want to reprogram the PCM, an alternative is to put a 560 ohm resistor in the PCM connector that usually goes to the vacuum line switch solenoid back by the EGR valve. (I tried the "standard fool the pcm" 2.2k ohm resistor initially but still got the code set occasionally) Now there is no light and no code set.

Just trying to clean up under the hood and get it all down to something I recognize. I'm not a big fan of the over complicated engine bay.
I haven't checked the code yet, I just purchased my software and cable for connecting the laptop. Had to buy a pcmia card to connect the cable.
It only sets the SES after the engine warms up. It comes on when the smog pump starts after it is up to temp.
I have to work tonight, going to spend the weekend installing a new K&N CAI, cutting a hatch in the back and installing a fuel pump, putting in a B&M Mega shifter and washing my dog. LOL
I need to go back to 67' thru 72' Camaros. A lot easier to build. This is my first new Gen. and it's driving me nuts.
I am going to try changing the program to take out the EGR system.
I need to figure out the "Datamaster" and "ALDL" software. Can the changes in the PCM be made with these? If not, what software do I need?

The "smog pump" (AIR) runs at startup, not "after it is up to temp".
TTS DataMaster is a scanning/data logging program. It is not a tuning program. You need LT1_Edit or TunerCats OBD-I versions to tune.
I'm assuming your "ALDL Software" is simply the interface/cable to connect the ALDL connector to your PCM.
