95 LT1 and 6spd manual only 15,283 miles!

I just got done looking over a very low mile and very new-ish but wrecked Z28. It was a garage queen owned by a grandpa who either sold or gave it to a grandson that put it in its present state. Engine still runs, they started it up for me and ran it for a minute. All fluids are fresh still, clear brake fluid, green coolant, clean engine oil. To top it off, the interior is still immaculate. He's willing to part with the powertrain stuff, engine, tranny, pcm, wiring harness, and all the accessories and mounting brackets for 2700 firm. This could be what I been looking for to replace my tired 156k mile LT1. My aspirations of tranplanting or building a 383 are not so high anymore. I'd like to be able to pass CA smog tests and keep her a nice weekend cruiser. Does this sound like a good deal to jump on? What other research do y'all suggest I do on the vehicle before dishing out the hard earned cash? It seems like a no brainer to me but maybe I just need to hear from some other gearheaded people like me.

U can find ls1 drivetrains for 2500-3000. Maybe not with such low mileage but definitely more parts available and newer tech. If you're anything like me though u wouldn't trade your lt1 for a ls7 lol

That sounds like a good deal too but the low mileage and simpler plug and play aspect of it is what gets my attention. Seen a thread on ls1tech about a LT1 to LS1 conversion done by someone in..Vancouver Washington? Although having an LS1 in a LT1 Camaro would be pretty damn cool, I'm not sure if I want to go through all the troubles of a conversion. I know even less about LS1s Is it worth troubles doing a LS1 conversion? Oh nevermind. I'll do a search

The LS1 conversion isn't particularly hard but it is more involved than most people think.

The deal you've been offered wouldn't be bad except there is a ton of stuff you shouldn't really need. Accessories, harness, computer, transmission, you have all of that stuff going by your signature so a lot of it wouldn't be of much use to you unless you wanted to sell off the extra stuff or just keep spares around.

Personally I would look around for a short or long block to rebuild and just swap that when your engine finally dies.

u could always try and sell the extra parts that u dont use to try and get back a lil bit of ur money. 2700 is a lil steep but at the same time it would be nice to have a low mileage motor that wouldnt need anything done 2 it also.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but...

It might be a low-mileage motor, but it's also 16 years old. Being that the car was wrecked it may have sat for a LONG time without being ran. In this case, IMO, the low mileage isn't that much of a selling point.

All great responses! Thanks guys! I ran the the VIN number thru Carfax and it is a legit 15K miles. I'll shorten the report though. The car was owned bought and owned by someone in Las Vegas(probably a granny or grandpa) that kept it like a garage queen and only put on about 2,300 miles on it from 1994 to 2004. Second owner got the mileage up to 14,633 in Sept. 2010. The last driver/owner must feel like a total jack *** he only had it from Oct 2010 to May 2011. He started at 14,641, and ended at 15,237. Sucks to be him.

Add your location to your profile. Do you have plans for the transmission? If you don't and aren't too far, I may be interested in the tranny.
