95 Lt-1 with 93 Frame
95 Lt-1 with 93 Frame
Okay so i have some quick questions on an engine swap im doing right now. I got a 94 lt1 engine that was in a 95 formula firebird that we pulled the engine, trans with the whole wiring harness that connects under the dash. (just unplugged it from the box under the dash). We are placing it in a 93 formula Firebird. The actual connectors are the same but the wires on the 95 wiring harness has 1 more wire per connector. Will the computer under the dash be compatible with this? or will i have to swap the whole computer also.

Re: 95 Lt-1 with 93 Frame
The computer is not under the dash. It's under the hood near the firewall.
Let's make sure this is clear.... you have a 94 engine, that came out of a 95 chassis (???), and you want to install the 94 engine in your 93 chassis. You want to use the engine wiring harness out of the 95 chassis, with your 93 ECM.
The 93 ECM connectors are nothing like the 94 and up PCM connectors. Different shape, different number of pins. Use your 93 engine harness.

Re: 95 Lt-1 with 93 Frame
okay ill give u the whole story. We bought a 95 firebird that the owner claimed it had an lt4 swap, right away it turned out to be an lt1 so we just assumed that it was the original motor. We pulled it out and when we took the opti off, it had the old style opti (pre 95) But had a 4l60e trans. So we assume its a 94 engine.
We pulled the engine with the trans and the computer. Theres 3 wires that go from the computer, through the firewall and connect to a black box under the passanger side dash. Those are the wires im refering to. The actual shape of the connectors match the shape of the old computer that was orginally in the 93. We cant use the 93 computer and wiring harness because its for a 700r4, not the 4l60e. My question is, the connectors on the 94/95 wiring harness (depending on what year this engine really is) is the same as the connector in the 93 computer, will it work even though there are a couple extra wires on the new harness.
