95 Hard start and no throttle response
I got a buddy with a 95 Z and it is all STOCK anyway when he goes to cran kit up in the morning it turns over but wont fire. when it does fire it runs. Yesterday when he was coming home from school he said he was going 20 in 1st gear and was giving it gas but it wasnt going anywhere. Now I told him it is prob the opti but he is strapped for cash and it is his only car and I dont want to have him buy a opti if that isnt it. what do you guys think it is? I am pretty sure I am right but want to double check 1st.
Thanks
Matt

Re: 95 Hard start and no throttle response
I would check fuel pressure and and see how fast it drops,I had rough starting and didn't fix it till my starter wore out, it turns out I wasn't holding pressure in the fuel pump, so If I were you I would make sure it holds pressure, accept in your case it sounds like it may be a bad injector due to the rough starting and sluggish running, also check regulator (pull off vaccume hose while car is running, and pressure should go up)

I suppose this is going to be a guessing game. I'll go with the Ignition Module. Actually it could also be the coil itself. I'll go with the first response. My car did the exact same thing pretty easy fix.

Re: 95 Hard start and no throttle response
As much as everyone wants to blame the opti for everything (and it's definitely deserving), I would check the easy (read: cheap) stuff first. Unless you changed that fuel filter yourself, that should be the first to go. Next would be the coil. In my experience, the ignition module is an all or nothing item. It either works or it doesn't, not a lot of gray area. The coil and filter won't run you much and if they're still stock, they need to be replaced anyway.
When you have the coil off, just make sure you clean the ignition module and make sure it's getting good contact. Last, check all your ground wires for corrosion. I had to reterminate all of mine after a little episode with my old Accel coil.
I would lean toward more of a fuel problem as others have said, but the cheapest thing is to replace the filter. Even if you get low pressure on a check, you'll want to start there.
