Personally I don't think that you should dump the whole $2000 right away in to performance parts, unless you have some other cash set aside already for your standard mishaps that WILL eventually happen.
If you are going to go ahead and get some stuff, I would honestly go for an exhaust (I'm partial to flow master and magnaflo though I hear borla makes a good product too) and a good Cold Air Intake kit. For the CAI I would suggest K&N, they run about $300 or there abouts, last time I checked.
Now, I'll tell you that I don't know nearly as much as some of the guys here, but I think that they will suggest keeping a little 'emergency cash' aside just in case something starts going wrong.

Financial advice not withstanding, if you have 2,000 to spend you'll do pretty well. Assuming there are no problems to resolve, the place to start is with the engine 'breathing'. Headers, catback exhaust (personally, I hate the raspy sounding Flowmaster and Borla systems and prefer the sound of the Corsa) will take of the downstream side. On the intake side, a good Cold Air Intake is a must. Don't bother with a bigger throttle body, there is little to gain there. If you have anything left you can add a set of 1.6 ratio roller rockers and supporting springs.

Here's a warning...modding these cars is addictive. You'll spend a lot more money after this first two grand!

I think I can honestly say that I've never heard a Corsa... I almost feel that I should be ashamed

I know you didn't ask for the 'financial advice', just felt that I should throw it out there. Hunter is right though, modding these cars, or any car for that matter, is extremely addictive and before you know it you will have thrown like $8-$10K at it and not really realized it.

Either way you go, have fun with it!

For every dollar you put in the engine, you need to figure on putting 1/2 that amount additional into the drivetrain and the suspension.

I don't know how much knowledge you have about these cars, (I am no expert) but read up first and think about what purpose you really intend the car to have in your life. Don't get in a hurry! Make some goals and set out a plan. Don't impulse buy, its not going to come all together overnight in a box. I read John Lingenfelter's book on modifying small blocks and it really made me think about what I was going to do with the car and where my dollars were best spent, there are several other good books out there too. With sites like this, the resources and information offered by some of the members (and some patients) you sould be able to make good use of your funds (its never enough). And if you have the desire to do a lot of the work your self you will save much more than you could imagine, and the finished product will be worth more to you in the long run. Good luck!

LOL...no need to be ashamed..it's all personal preference anyway. One of the best parts about the Corsa is it doesn't have the drone that Flowmasters do at normal driving rpm.

They all work in uncorking the exhaust so you can make more power.....

You know, I have heard a lot of people say that they don't like the magnaflo's for that same reason...for whatever reason the set that is on my car doesn't get the drone that you normally hear from the flowmasters.

Like Injuneer said aslo, make sure you're not just beefing the engine up without making the needed changes to the rest of the car so that it can handle the torque and power that your engine will be putting out.
