Angry 94z obd connection

My 1994 z28 wont spit out any codes when I hook up the code reader (OBD I). I have heard that some 94s have to be checked with an OBD II reader eventhough it is supposed to be an OBD I. I know I've got something wrong because the SES light comes on after warmed up and that kicks on both electric fans and prevents the A/C compressor from working. Runs bad too. HELP!!!

What scanner are you using?

Try the bozos at Autozone and see if they can scan it.

Try an independant garage, if they use the snap-on scanner like I do it's no problem. I own a 94 and works like a dream.

The cheap scanners with the 3 pins (like at autozone or any other auto parts stores) will not work. The cheapest way to scan your codes is to use a laptop, freescan and a data cable from akmcables.com. Or you can go to a mechanic and have them do it. My local mechanics wanted 100 bucks to hook it to their code reader.

The cheapo scanner (about $30) I have is an INNOVA 3123.
What software and cables would I need to hook up to my laptop?

Autozone in California no longer reads codes for the general public because too many complaints it was stealing thier business. I called 4 Autozones in NOR_CAL and got the same story at each place.

Screw Autozone, go to a local garage and get the codes. Check out the scanners at PEP Boys. If they don't work take them back but 94's are all obd and it's easy to get a scanner for them.

Keep the faith

you would need / freescan from http://www.andywhittaker.com/ecu/ecu_software.htm&e=912

And then choose your cable from http://www.akmcables.com/ic.htm according to your cable and how much you want to spend(unmolded less durable cable are cheaper).
