94 Z28 Overheating!!!!

I just bought a 94 Z28 A4 with 137,000 miles today and its overheating. On the drive home i had to pull over 3 times to let it cool down. I was pretty bummed out. When we got back me and my buddies figured out that the fans are not working. However, we pulled them and a simple connection to a battery and they worked fine. The water pump seems to be working because it takes a good mile to start overheating so there has to be some water flow. I either think its a bad sensor or connection. Also, it doesn't have a front air dam and i know thats part of the problem but it shouldn't overheat that bad. What do y'all think? Should i say screw it and make switch for the fans or what. Any help would be great.

Get a air damn, without it almost no air goes through the radiator.

Definitely get an airdam on there

and then checkout that thermostat

also look under the car for any leaking coolout out of the waterpump

make sure you check the coolant level in the resovior tank and make sure its not disappearing elsewhere

If the fans aren't coming on, the coolant temp sensor in the water pump could be bad.

Turn the A/C On and see if the fan kicks in, if they dont theres more problems then just the sensor on the waterpump.

I had the same problem, make sure you get the air dam on first but check your fan relay. I installed a bypass switch so I could turn my fans on when I wanted to... I liked it but you cant forget to turn them on...

Get that airdamn fixed ASAP. I had a problem with mine where it would start to over-heat, and it was because my heater-core was blocked.
