94 Z28 optispark options?

So I am the new guy. I have searched for this problem, but not found specific instructions I am looking for. I noticed Delphi makes a coil pack that mounts on the driver side valve cover, has anyone used this?

I am looking at a Camaro which is a 94 Z28 6-speed with only 80K on it. Car is immaculate and I want the car, but was scared as it didnt start the first time I looked at it, however it started the next day fine, is that the optispark drying out? Any help would be great, I am mechanically inclined as my last car a Grand Prix had extensive work done to it, including a Paxton Novi blower. Thanks guys, hopefully I can grab this car and be part of this great community!

Re: 94 Z28 optispark options?

Welcome! A no start condition is not likely the opti, especially if it started the next day. The check valve in the fuel pump is a likely candidate for the no start; if the check valve gets dirty, the fuel system doesn't hold pressure for starting. Bring a fuel gauge over and attach it to the Schrader valve on the fuel rail to prove you have fuel pressure after the fuel pump primes (fuel pump runs for 2 seconds when the key is turned to run).

Its "Delteq" that makes the 4-coil conversion for the LT1, not Delphi. A "search" should turn up some reviews and feedback from people who are using it.

An alternative is the LTCC system from Bailey Engineering. Uses 8 LS-1 style coils in direct fire.

Both of these systems require that you have an Opti with a healthy optical sensor, since they require the high and low resolution pulse patterns from the optical sensor.
