Don't spend the 5k all at once, assuming that the car is stock, put a cam, headers, at least 3 inch exhaust, roller rockers and get the car to hook up good, don't put 5k in a engine and in 3 month's have to replace the tranny if auto, clutch if manual ring and pinion, and axles, and opti. have it tuned, and drive it a while, when your used to the power you can ad a turbo or blower, Are you going to be doing the work yourself? A car that will hook up good with decent power is in my opinion more desirable than a high horsepower car that spins through 3rd gear.

So yea around 500hp. opinions pleas and thank youIf you want 500HP at the rear wheels, you have to tell us what transmission the car has in it.
When you develop your budget, you have to figure that 2/3 of the budget will go into the engine, and the other 1/3 will go into the drivetrain and suspension.
Ide suggest a Torque converter (im gonna be goin with a vigilance 9.5"single disk lock-up - 3200 stall with the transGo shift kit - $799). Then after that gonna be getting the lt1- LE2 heads with cam listed below for about $1,600, 226/230 .565/.565 111 LSA. - 1900-6200 RPM. But you have to have a minimum of 2800 stall and 3:42 gears. But i imagine with that (i'm running cat-back exhaust right now with K&N air) should be about knocking on the door to 400ish horse. Or if your just lazy you can buy and install a STS turbo kit for the LT1... should put you close to 400-440hp range at 6-7psi(rough guess.. on the dyno sheet they did for the ls1 @ 8psi gave a 190hp boost) those turbo kits roughly cost 4k... but i'de suggest building supporting mods before going turbo on an lt1..that or it won't last for very long if you get on it alot.
Edit: also, if you go with the Torque converter i'de suggest also buying a cooler for it.. from what i've heard they have a tendancy go get hot.

or if your extremely lazy and don't wanna get into the whole modding.. you could buy a 383 lt1 competition short block.. rated @ 440 hp and 460 tq. (not sure what they're asking for the turn-key engine (http://www.golenengineservice.com/sp...383_440tk.html) but you can buy the block and build it yourself for a little less than $4,000 for the block
