Unhappy 94-Z28 - Check engine light issues.

Hello everyone.

I have read here for a long time, but never became a member. You guys are great helping other members, so I thought it was time I joined.

Here is my issue. I recently purchased a 94 Z-28 with 92K on the clock. Very un-molested original car. I have only had it a couple of weeks, and have put about 300 miles on it. (not my daily driver)...

I notice a hesitation - or miss - or skip in the car during mild acceleration. When I floor it, the car pauses, then downshifts and goes. That's good, but I can't explain the surging thing. I know the old 3rd gens had issues with the TPS, so I put one of those on just for kicks, and no change. I have tried to pull codes (or see if there are any in the car, but am having probs with the SES light and ALDL connector. When I turn the ignition on, the SES light comes on like it is supposed to, along with all the others, then when I start, they all go out...

I have tried putting a jumper between A & B and I just get a solid light when I turn the ignition on. No flashing. I know I should be getting a code 12 at least to let me know the system is working, but nothing, just solid light.

Any help you guys in the know could provide, or troubleshooting options, please let me know.

thanks for your help in advance.

Jim.

Jim,,

If your 94 is like mine, its OBD I and you cannot do the old jumper trick to have the codes flash out. You need to get a code scanner. The hesisitation could be a 100 things ~ do you know the maint. history of the car? Opti sparks usually die aroung 100K, when was the plugs last changed? Throtal body & IAC & MAF cleaned? Check for codes & do the baseline maint on the car & go from there.
