94 Z Opti questions
Hello all. I am new to the boards. I have a 94 Z28 with 114,000 miles on it. Lately it has been running bad at times, but not all the time. On occasion while accelerating lightly it has a bad hestitation, or stutter. Also sometimes when I sit at traffic lights the rpm's/motor rev up like 500rpm's and the car wants to just go. It is an automatic so it is really trying to move the car while you are stopped.
It has new plugs and wires at 80 and a new EGR about 5,000 miles ago. The only thing not stock on the car right now is a K&N Intake and a gutted cat. I took off the Borla exhaust about 6 months ago.
Does this sound like a definite opti problem, or could it be a problem with a wire, or does it have a seperate coil wire that sends power to the opti that could be bad without replacing the entire opti? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds familiar, my opti failure was characterized by surging at idle and misses at part throttle.
Plugs and wires are always worth checking, though. With the car running, look at the engine bay around the plugs, wires, and coil. Do this in total darkness, and you'll easily see if your plugs/wires are arcing. Even better if someone can rev the car a bit to exaggerate the effect. Even if the wires aren't that old, they can get melty and fail.
If that is the original opti however...
