'94 LT1 spark plug needs thread repair

So driving down the road last night and the #8 spark plug popped out of the car, started making quite the racket. Head threads are stripped. Doing some reading and seeing what has been recommended by folks in the past I see
Heli Coil Heli Coil
kits (which is lower quality) mentioned and a https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_98141 kit. Best option is https://www.ebay.com/i/272742907631?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28 but that is $$$.

This is for an engine conversion so space is tight. I am going to remove the exhaust manifold to improve access. Has anyone done this before and would recommend which repair kit to purchase? Any other advice? Here are tips I have read about so far:
  • Make sure piston is a BDC
  • Use axle or heavy grease on tap to capture aluminum debris
  • Remove, clean tap and re-grease multiple time to capture debris
  • Use compressed air to clean out cylinder

Thanks!

I don’t like the idea of using compressed air. I’d attempt to use vacuum rather than pressure to clean it out. You really, really want to avoid even the tiniest bit of material getting into the cylinder.

if you could do this with the head off, that would be enormously preferable.

Yup that is what I have decided to do, this is too sketchy. Thanks!
