94 LT1 Carb Gauge Cluster Wiring?
94 LT1 Carb Gauge Cluster Wiring?
I'm just about at the end of my build, I want to keep the stock gauge cluster, but can't find any useful information on it. I've removed the computer and engine harness, but I still have the pigtails and sensors. What I'm basically wondering is,
Can I wire the Coolant Gauge Sensor wire from the water pump directly to the gauge cluster? I know the one in the head is for the computer and is a different voltage. But does the voltage stay the same from the water pump sensor after it goes through the pcm to the gauge cluster?
Can I do something similar with the oil pressure?
Will the fuel gauge still work?
How do I wire up the tachometer?
I've seen autometer has a programmable cable to electronic speedometer converter that says only works with their gauges, is it possible to make it work with the stock gauge?
I know other people have done the carb swap on the lt1, somebody must have wanted the stock gauges and gotten them to work somehow.
Spring is around the corner, and help would be super greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The oil pressure gauge is also wired to the sensor and not the computer. It is also a resistance reading and not a voltage
Ditto the fuel gauge.
How you wire the tach depends on the ignition system you choose...
Re: 94 LT1 Carb Gauge Cluster Wiring?
Great info thanks, but I took the engine harness out with the computer, so would I wire the senor pigtails right to the gauge cluster? I'm using a MSD 6AL ignition box and a SUM-850001R Distributor.
Re: 94 LT1 Carb Gauge Cluster Wiring?
If you used a 93 gauge cluster, it will accept the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) signal directly from the VSS. In 93 it did not go through the ECM. You would have to tweak the gear in the VSS to match the rear.
Ditto with the tach. In 93 the cluster got the RPM signal directly from the coil, not from the PCM like 94 and up. There is a "filter" in the 93 tach circuit, so I'm not sure it that would be needed or not.

Re: 94 LT1 Carb Gauge Cluster Wiring?
On my '93 Z, I changed the oil pressure switch, (near the oil filter), and the coolant sensor that is in the block and adapted the wires from the dash cluster along with a illumination wire to the new gages. Auto Meter was very good in providing all necessary components and informational help. The setup works great. The old cluster gages no longer work because these wires go to the new gages.
Re: 94 LT1 Carb Gauge Cluster Wiring?
Is there anyway I can just use a board off of the back of a 93 cluster and keep the 94 cluster? Or should I just get a 93 cluster? What is this "filter" in the tach circuit? Is it part of the board on the back of the 93 cluster? Or is it built into the cluster itself or is it just a wire?
Also I didn't realize the 93 transmission was non-electronic, how would I tweak the VSS gear?
Thank you for all the responses, the information has been greatly helpful.
