94 impala ss motor in 94 z28

bought a 94 z28 and have a spare 94 impala motor laying around can I put the impala motor in the Camaro....I no the timing cover and opti is different but as long as I get the impala opti would that work? also there is not an oil cooler but wouldlike to add one I have the oil adapter from the impala motor I plan on just buying impala oil cooler lines and modifying them to an external cooler... does anyone see anything wrong with these plans or is there anything else that is different between Camaro vs impala motor I will have to address?

Might want to check the numbers and make sure it's an LT1 and not an L99.

The oil coolers circulate water from the radiator around the adapter above the filter, they don't move oil. I wouldn't run one of the street personally. Just another source of weight and potential leaks.

Yup, the impala has cast heads that flow better stock by 10%, but the aluminum ones are portable, lighter, and disperse heat better.

The cam delivers about 20 more torque(dyno) on the low end to the wheels, although about 20 less hp. However the numbers were rated with 87 octane, so that isn't bad seeing as your 0-60 may go up depending on your rear end gears.

The Impala engine (if it is an Impala engine) is identical to a Camaro engine of the same year.....including Opti and timing cover.

As for oil cooler components.....use what's on your Camaro....NOT....what's on or should be on an Impala. If the oil lines are spec'ed for the Impala, they likely will not work on your Camaro without significant modification.

Impala heads are cast iron.....so you might want to use the aluminum heads.....which are about 50-60 pounds lighter.

The Impala cam is a 'torquer' cam....not a HP cam. If you want low RPM torque.....use the SS cam. Otherwise, use your Camaro cam.....or an aftermarket cam.

The water pumps are vehicle specific.....so be sure to use a F-body pump!

Use all accessory brackets/belts/etc from the Camaro.....the Impala set-up won't do for you.

Easiest way to ensure that the engine is in fact a LT1 (versus a L98) engine.....look for the numbers "327" casted on the passenger side of the block.

Good luck!

Not identical.

The Impala/SS got the vented Opti in 1994. The F-Body didn't get it until 1995. So the timing cover, cam sprocket, cam dowel pin and the Opti would be different.

Re: 94 impala ss motor in 94 z28

All Good Points... Im Basically Frakensteining A Motor Together Short Block From Impala With Hot Cam Kit And Timing Cover And Opti From Impala....Heads From Camaro And What Not. I Bought The Camaro And Motor Was Locked Up So I Rebuilt The Old Motor I Took Out Of My Impala When I Swapped The 383 In.

So Putting An After Market Oil Cooler Is Not A Good Idea? I Should Just Put The Oil Filter Adapter On?

Don't worry about an oil cooler. Just use a regular filter adapter.
