94 Firebird 5.7 LT1 Crank No Start
94 Firebird 5.7 LT1 Crank No Start
Little back story. Had bought a 94 firebird that was rough and white smokey. Transmission shifts but already shows that it gave its last leg out. (Can only assume Intake gasket issue/coolant leak for the white smoke on original). Previous owner had done something to the fuel pump harness to have it on at all times on start position. Had came with a donor engine and transmission for 600 altogether. Had took out the old engine and transmission out and put the donor in already. What I had done to the donor engine before putting it back to the firebird is new oil pan gasket and oil pan, coil and wireset, spark plugs, optispark, fuel pump, spliced and reconnected the harness a bit better as it was showing already some wires out or about to rip already, couple of vacuum hoses, and thought by the time this is done, itll turn on? Right? Nope. Have crank but no start. Had checked if it was getting spark. Got blue spark going on all spark plugs from using the spare spark plug method on near metal. Had checked if it was fuel issue. Was getting 40 psi reading from the fuel pump (ensuring not a defect). Unsure at this rate is if I had done something wrong in the process. Or it could be a timing issue that the chain potentially is the culprit? Had read about the ICM being the issue. But, had replaced that new too along with blue spark. Not sure it could be the fuel injectors being clogged or something that is causing no start. Still new to the 5.7 gen. Had done the starting fluid method. It gave an indication of turning on. But, dies afterward from a second. That is where I'm thinking it could be injectors? timing issues? or missed something. Had checked for compression and all 8 cylinders gave 180 readings. Had read some forums beforehand before posting this thread and doesn't match the potential issue or wall I'm in. Any help is appreciated as I would like to see the firebird up and running to know how it is driving one of these beauties having a v8 engine than its v6 counterpart.

Re: 94 Firebird 5.7 LT1 Crank No Start
LT1 intake is dry….. no coolant leak there.
You indicate fuel pump wiring was altered by previous owner so pump runs all the time. To do that he had to bypass the PCM and the fact it needs a “fuel enable” signal from the PASS-Key II (VATS) security system.
Stock operation - when you turn the key to “RUN” the fuel pump primes for 2 seconds and shuts down. The PCM will not restart the fuel pump until it receives the “fuel enable” signal from the theft deterrent module (TDM). The TDM only sends that when it reads the correct key resistance.
You indicate you made revisions to the fuel pump wiring. After your revisions - when you turn the key to ”RUN”, does the pump prime for 2 seconds and then shut down? Or does it continue to run? If pump shuts down, does it restart when you turn the key to “START”?

Re: 94 Firebird 5.7 LT1 Crank No Start
1) Dry. No coolant leaks from what I'm aware of.
2) It's no longer in stock operation. Haven't fixed it back to stock yet. If this is what's preventing it to turn on completely I'll revise and fix back to normal.
3) The previous owner had let me know about it before buying the firebird. Already acknowledged where he done the revision. But, haven't turned it back to stock operation. No, still primes continuously than shutting down the pump around 2 seconds like any other vehicle. Yes, it'll restart the prime on the "start" position as attempting to give fuel on the combustion chamber to ignite fuel to start the engine up/running.
4) I do wait for the security light to turn off before the "start" position and does turn off than still being on.

Use a ‘noid light to see if the PCM is supplying the ground pulse to fire the injectors.
If the car sat unused for any period on time, with a tank full of 10% ethanol fuel, the system, including the injectors can be restricted.
Make sure that key on you have 12 volts on the pink wire in each fuel injector connector.
This PCM wiring diagram shows the fuel pump wiring and injector wiring.

There are more detailed wiring diagrams of each system in the 1994 factory service manual. Free download here:

Do you have an OBD-1 code scanner? There is a trouble code (DTC 46) for the PCM not receiving the “fuel enable” signal.

Re: 94 Firebird 5.7 LT1 Crank No Start
When I said "LT1 intake is dry….. no coolant leak there." it was not a question.
That is because the LT1 intake is "DRY". There are no coolant passages in it. It can't leak coolant.
Any follow up on this?
