94 Canton pan hits my steering rack
94 Canton pan hits my steering rack
just like it says - bought the car, motor mounts look good, they don't lift up but a hair when I use a jack - the pan touches my steering rack when in place.
Supposed to shim up the motor with this pan? Would new poly mounts put the motor up more?
Anybody have this issue?

man - that's allot to do for pan interference!

look fresh - floor jack lifted the car after just a hair of play from the mounts.
I looked that up when I bought the car - it was the only Canton pan - t- type for the LT1 f-bod (can't find the number now)
has trap doors and baffle - cut out for oil filter and sump in the rear..

Answered my own question
from Canton website:
STYLE: 7-1/2" shallow, fully baffled for road racing, this pan was designed to fit in late model (82-92) F Bodies, (93-Up) F Bodies might require the steering rack to be lowered or the engine mounts shimmed. Makes a great late F-Body Drag Pan. Can be used with cross-over exhaust. Pans can be notched for steering clearance on a special order basis.
Guess I'll be shimming the mounts. thanks for the help

I was putting a k-member in the car and noticed a wear pattern on the oil pan....that was when I had the k-member made with the modification for the steering rack.
Things to ponder with the oil pan....
Your oil sensor might get in the way if you ever get bigger headers. Mine is gone with my larger Kook's headers.
They really are not deep enough imo for drag racing apps.

CANTONRACER: yup - things are tight, starter too.
I agree - not alot of sump area - but they suggest ACCUSUMP for serious effort.
I can feel the engine movement in my steering wheel - thought the car was handling funny - saw the touching and it all makes sennse noe!

The way that website is layed out it makes it difficult to understand. Because there are three pictures under the description, which pan are they talking about? All of them? The #15-242T is supposedly a direct bolt in. I just put my engine in my car last Saturday with that pan and from what I remember it was fine. However I also put in new engine mounts.

They should have bought the same pan you did for this car.
I think the satement "may be required" covers them for all pans - but the description of the #15-244 pan does not say direct fir for 93+up....
