I was noticing today that the shifter panel in my 1993 Z28 doesn't have a 1 for first gear on it. Also, I can't shift into first gear either. Is this normal? I am guessing not, but I read this on another site and it makes me wander.

 

The mod they are talking about is where you take off the shifter panel and grind off the little stopper that keeps you from pulling the shifter all the way back. I have heard people say its white plastic. Once you grind that piece off, you will be able to select first gear, and have the car hold it. I cant imagine why people do this, but they do.

ya i did it it's a black plastic stoper a sm. hack saw blade got rid of mine in like 2 min. 1st. pulls great from a roll dont know y they blocked it in the 1st place but easy mod to do.

 

93 cars ordered with the 3.23 "perfomance axle" can be manually shifted into 1st gear, cars with the 2.73 axle cannot be shifted unless you modify the console insert.

 

Thanks for the replies on this. I just bought the car and was making sure that it wasnt' screwed up. I have never had a 4th Generation Camaro and didn't know that they removed first gear selection lilke that.
