93 Z28

I just got a 93' Z28. It needs a front bumper, tires, and it has a blown head gasket. Im assuming this cause it blows out white smoke from the tail pipes. Its also has a slight knock coming from what sounds like the right head. maybe a lifter sticking. neway, the guy i bought it from said he thought the head gasket was blown so he sold it to me for $500. It's in good shape. perfect interior, brand new windshield. I found front bumpers cheap on ebay and tires arent much. A shop around here said he would tear the engine down and do the work for $750 and the head shop will shave heads for $250. I might have him do plugs/wires too. its been sitting up for a while. what ya'll think??? anything else i should have him look at or replace while its torn down.

what does everyone think about those "heal a seal" things that you just pour into the car and it fixes blown head gaskets and warped/cracked heads?? like

Forget the heal and seal junk. Chang the gaskets. I'd be more worried about that knock. Is it a tapping noise or does it sound like marble bouncing around in a coffee can. A tap could be loose rocker arm, lifters. A knock (marble in can) is more serious - spun rod bearing.

Just get it properly fixed. The miracles in a can are usually good for taking 15 bucks out of your wallet, thats about it.

+1 for doing it right, change the gasket.

P.S. $500, lucky!
