Im having a problem with my 93 t/a since i bought it 6 months ago.

The transmission works fine, shifts hard and in general has no problems. EXCEPT. that when you try to race or jump on it real hard from a slow roll, the car doesnt shift into 2nd, it just revs and bangs the rev limiter until you slightly lift off the gas, which it then shifts and doesnt have the problem in the 2nd to 3rd shift.


I except everyone to reply with it being a detent cable adjustment problem, i have already adjusted it every direction and has had no results

 

I have the exact same problem. Im gonna go have the fluid flushed and hope that helps but it may very well not.. how much does a good rebuild cost assuming you take the tranny out yourself? oh yeah...ttt for ya

 

what mods do u have done, any gear swaps, or a converter????

 

that happened to my first trans and it turned out to be the 1-2 band after a while i lost 2nd altogether that sucked

ohh well their just transmissions right who needs 2nd anyway

 

maybe the governor? or valve body?

 

i had a friend who's car did this,
it was a broken pin, he had it rebuilt and the tranny guy found it,

I just had this happen, I soon couldnt shift out of 2nd at all. Rebuilt the tranny, my mechanic showed me the stock plate and exactly where the problem had occurred, pin came right through, and a section of the tranny wasnt getting the fluid properly which caused overheating and then failure.

 

You might also pull the governor out and see if the gear on it is worn, if it is the car will not shift.
