93' starter problem

So I have a 93 z28 and my starter is going out. I can get my car to start most of the time by banging on it with a metal shaft but its way up behind the exhaust and i have to crawl on the ground and push my car up on a ramp just to get under there. So today "saturday" i finally decided to pull the starter out of my car and replace it after months of putting it off. I haven't actually tried to fully remove it yet because i'm starting to realize that it is buried behind exhaust pipes and i'm worried i wont be able to get the damm thing out. is there any tricks i should know about removing a starter from a 1993 z28?

Stock exhaust or headers? Sounds like you need to disconnect the y-pipe and get busy.

If its stock exhaust it will slide out its tricky but it does work i have prob replaced 10 or so of these particular starters in my lifetime first one is a pain until you figure it out then they are easy can get one done in under 10 minutes now starting from the point i jack the car up

For an automatic

It should come out with a little maneuvering if you have a 6 speed without removing anything besides the starter.
