I'm running the M29 in my 93 with the stock 3:23's. What are others out there running? With the steeper first gear than the 94's and up I was leaning toward some 3:42's. Besides my current mods below I will be doing a hotcam install and a NX100 wet shot install over the winter (and rear end gears), so there will be more pony's in the spring. Just want to get the gearing right and have first gear not be useless. I will drive some highway miles but not much...mostly a weekend warrior car.Thanx!

 

I was actually pondering this myself. Personally, when I get my 12 bolt I'm going to be switching to a 3.42 ONLY because no one makes a 12 bolt gearset in 3.23. A 3.73 wouldn't be too bad with the M29, but a 4.10 would be a monster. Totally overkill (4.10 and M29 combo), and you'd be switching gears so fast that first would be just about useless.

I like my 3.23's. It's a good balance of top/bottom end. 3.42 may give a little gain, but if you look at it, the M29/3.23 combo actually has a higher overall ratio than the 94+/3.42 combo.

 

Thats just what I mean....I was thinking a 3:42 would put right between the A4's with 3:73 - 4:10's. So I'm pretty sure that's the way I'll go! thanks.

 

I would so go with a 3.73. I do not think you will feel that much of a dfference going from a 3.23 to a 3.42. I am currently running a M28 with a 3.50 gear and have no complaints.
