93 m29 vs 94+ M6 should I trade?
93 m29 vs 94+ M6 should I trade?
I just got a 93 m29 trans for a 6speed conversion.
I have someone wanting to trade me for a new style T56.
They are telling me that with 4.10's I might not make it thru the 60' mark without having to shift and that this trans is a lot weaker.
What do you thin should I trade. He wants my trans for autocross

The M29 trans is a stronger trans!!! Don't trade it.
Here's the deal. In 93, when GM started the LT1 F-Body production, Borg Warner didn't have the F-Body spec T-56's ready yet. So GM goes to Chrysler, and buys up a bunch of Viper T-56's. Thus, the two different ones in the 93 F-Body, and the different gearing and power rating. The M28 was the weaker one. I believe that the M29 is rated to something like 450 LB/FT also.
With 4.10's and a 6000 redline, you would make it to 38 in first, 54 in second, 78 in third, 112 in fourth, 140 in fifth, and 180 in sixth. 3:73's are a better match to the M29. It's your call.
If you insist on getting rid of it, I have a built 95 T-56 in one of my 93's that I would love to trade you for depending on condition. I've got a stock rear (3:23) and it's kinda doggish down low.

I stand corrected on the TQ rating though. It's only 400 Ft/Lb, like the 94+. The M28 was only 350.
How do I tell which one I have without opening things up? I have an early 93, serial number in the low 11,000s roughly the first third of production. i think a feb 93 build date. i can check the vin.
I got confused with the post. are the chrysler (earlier) ones the stronger ones?

The M29 (Chrysler) is the stronger one.
Check your RPO code sticker. It should say either M28 or M29 on it.
Actually, what rear end gearing do you have?? The M29 came with a 3.23 and the M28 came with a 2.73.

VIN has nothing to do with it. It was an option.
