93 intake manifold on 94-97s?

I have heard that the intake manifolds for 93's are different than the rest? What makes them different? Is it possible to make one fit on my 94??

the fuel crossover rails are in different places for the 93 compared to the 94-97. you need one of the later ones if you have 94-97 fuel rail.

theres no cutout in the front of the intake for the front crossover, i beleive there is only a rear crossover near the back of the fuel rails.

You need 93 fuel rails youll have to modify the route of the fuel lines slightly as well but other than that, it'll bolt right up.

it will bolt right up... if you get the right size bolts. the bolts for the 93 intake are a different size than the 94-97 intakes. also the fuel rail does not have a front crossover line and the fuel lines connect next to the throttle body, not by the back of the intake like the 94-97. no modification will be needed to get the fuel lines to hook up, they will just be routed a little differently. get the rails to match the intake and the right bolts and youll be set.

The 93 rails are designed to support the 93 batch fire injectors. They were changed in 94 to include the front cross-over pipe, because of the sequential injectors used from that point on. Not sure its a good idea to use the 93 batch fire rails in a 94 or newer sequential injetion setup.

never heard of such a thing.... but then again i dont listen that much ! i know that my 95 injectors are working without any problems *yet. do you have a theory on why they may cause problems? are the injectors themselves different or is it the way they are fired?

So basically what you are saying is if I want a smooth and easy (and i use that phrase loosely) engine swap i should just use a manifold from a 94-97 Lt1?

It would be easier, I'd go ahead and get 94+ manifold and save you some headacke.

Think about what happens when the injectors fire. Batch fire fires all the injectors on one bank simultaneously. There's a huge drop in fuel pressure. The sequential setup runs the rails in series, and fires the injecotrs one at a time in the sequential firing order. The pressure will be much more stable in this configuration. Might not make a difference at low HP levels, but at HP levels go up, the pressure issue becomes significant.

wouldnt the batch firing only occur if you had a 93 pcm?

Re: 93 intake manifold on 94-97s?

That's the point... if you put a 93 intake manifold and 93 fuel rails on a 94, the 93 rails are designed for batch fire, and the 94 PCM will be running sequential.

Re: 93 intake manifold on 94-97s?

Fred,
I used a 94 engine with 93 engine management and it ran perfect. There are lots of people running 93 engines with 94+ computers/wiring and they run fine. It might not be "ideal", but it will work fine.
