93 EGR problem
93 EGR problem
does anyone know if 93 has a specific EGR system...i have heard that all later years used a new type of system. i don't have my EGR system anymore and was wondering if a later years system would serve the same functionality.

All years use the same basic EGR valve design, and the same location on the intake manifold. The "differences" on the 93 compared to other years is the way the EGR and AIR plumbing for the passenger side of the exhaust are combined. Its still the same EGR valve.
There are supposedly different part numbers for the EGR valves used on different years, and possibly even special "low back pressure" valves that were used in a recall for EGR flow problems on the OBD-II cars.

i have a six speed so does that mean that i can't use the auto EGR system...it seems like that one would be the most common type throughout the years. has anyone ever tried to use a later year egr system for a 93? i was just wondering if it would work so i wouldn't have to look for the special 93 part #'s.

The plumbing for the air line for the passenger side of the exhaust combines with the EGR connection behind the intake manifold on the 93's. The 94-97's are not hooked up like that. Are you looking for a replacement plumbing setup, in addition to the EGR valve?

I had to look this up (thanks a lot, Fred
), since I was under the impression that all years piping for the EGR was the same. The oddball 1993 appears to utilize part of the AIR piping for dual duty (y-pipe) -initially for the AIR system when the car is started and then later for the EGR when cruising (and AIR is not in use). So, if you still have stock exhaust manifolds, you will need this kind of pipe to feed exhaust for the EGR to the intake manifold. If you had later model exhaust manifolds or headers, you could just use the simple, single pipe that the 94-97s use.
