9 hrs. work STILL CAN"T GET THE TRANNY OUT!!!! PLEASE HELP
I have the motor torn apart and i'm shipping out my heads today. I have the cherry picker ready to lift the engine and the motor mounts unbolted, then i unlbolted the tranny last night from the bell housing along with unbolting all the electrical shiat and things and CANNOT for the F*#(@(% LIFE OF ME get it away from the bellhousing. Me and a friend work for 9 hours straight last night working and wiggling and pulling cursing hitting.....well you know. We tried pulling bellhousing and all off first and that didn't work, and the unbolting it from the bellhousing leaving the bellhousing bolted to the engine but either way we can only work it back about 3 inches each time and no more. AM I MISSING SOMETHING? We have the engine supported by a jack and the tranny too, does the tran have to be higher when trying to pull it back? Who knows maybe i'm just not holding my tounge right, i dunno, but i'm so fed up with it i'm ready to try to hoist the engine and tran. out together and fig out the problem when its on the ground outside the engine bay. I can't belive i'm posting a ? on how to get the trans. off but i've never tried this on my own. Whats the easiest way? At what Angle? Why the hell won't it come off more than 3 inches away from the block? Please help, and many thanks for any that i get.
Not to insult you at all but are you sure you got all of the bolts out? Even the two up top that you can't really even see? When I dropped mine a few weeks back for a clutch swap, once all the bolts were out (doh) I used a screwdriver to pry it back about an inch. After that with the help of another person it slid right out. Make sure the tranny/engine are level with eachother also.

All you should have to do with the clutch fork os pull it out of it retainer. Once you have the slave cylinder off, just pull the fork twords the ds of the car, it should "pop" and then be really free to move around, then the tranny should just come right out.
I had the same problem. Like stated, make sure the clutch fork is pulled out. You can access it easier if after you remove the hydraulic whatever off teh drivers side, remove that little housing too. Just pull it straight out. Mine was stuck I *think* on the alignment dowels. I eventually just had to get under it and shake the holy hell out of it every which way possible for like an hour. Then it decided to let go, and I ended up bench pressig it out, and practically tearing my nipple off when I slid it off my chest onto the garage floor. Ahhh, the simple pleasures in life
Definatly check the clutch fork under the slave cylinder. just pull straight out on it, if that doesnt work, you can pull the tranny without doing that, but ya need to unbolt the bell housing and get a wrench in between the tranny and the bell housing to unbolt the pressure plate, then it will fall right out. you should probably pull the bell housing off anyway, makes putting the tranny back up 10 times easier, given it really wont go back in there with the bell housing still bolted to the tranny.
