9" in a 94 Z?

What all would it take to fit a 9" out of a 67 Ford truck to fit into a 94 z28?

I think it would be just cheaper and easier to buy a housing aftermarket rather than modify that one. The only thing you can probably use off of it to save you money would be the 3rd member, pumpkin or whatever you want to call it. I don't know what it would take to modify the axles to make them work probably more work than buying new ones.

Unless the width of the truck rear just happens to be the same as the 4th Gen F-Body, you would either have to have it narrowed or widened, or have the stock tubes pulled off your 10-bolt and welded to the center section. That way you have the brake mounting points, shock, coil spring, lca, panhard rod mounts. Then you need to find a way to attach a mount for the torque arm... very hard to do, but somehow Moser manages to do it. Then you would need new axles to match the splines in the 9-inch.

Then you would need to see if the center section has a limited slip carrier, what gears it has and whether it needs to be rebuilt. Hard to believe all this would be cheaper of more reliable than getting a 9-inch from Moser of Currie, or a 12-bolt from Strange or Moser.

There has been discussion about a guy who converts Ford 8.8-inch rears for 4th Gens, at a fairly low price... might want to go to the Advanced Tech board and do a search for a recent thread.

yeah i see what ya'll are saying. it does sound like a lot when you put it in writing. I was told that i could do it easily for about a grand but i dont see how. i was just trying to get out a little cheaper than 2 grand which is what moser wants for there 9" im hoping to have somewhere around 500rwhp on the juice and i know the stock rear isnt going to handle that. thanks for all the info guys!!!

Is you mind "set" on the 9-inch? At 500HP, the 12-bolt would do just as well. Probably go to 900-1000HP or so before the 9-inch becomes more attractive. A Strange 12-bolt would eliminate the need for any work of any kind... total plug-and-play. Same driveshaft, torque arm, etc.

Buy all your parts seperately. I only have $1,400.00 in mine, with ALL new parts. Takes a little research, but it can be done.
