88,000 a lot of miles?

The Car

Im looking into that car, i have a 1995 Z28 with 86000 on it almost. I have no problems with the car, engine or transmission. You name it, it works fine, other than the rear end gears were set up wrong so i have a howl but other than that, perfect running order.

Im looking into a 6 speed now. This one has 88,000 miles on it, which is similar to mine. The 6 speed would lead me to think it was beaten upon though, which isn't a good thing, I know you all will say go test it out and i will tomorrow. But how much can i offer this guy if he wants $7000. Its worth about $6300 on the blue books.

What would be a good offer and is this high mileage, i see transmission rebuilds for about $150 and i know the engine should be pretty good still at 88,000 and if the guy claims it saw no winters and it really didn't, hopefully he took care of it well. What do you all think?

My '97 Z has about 84k on it and it runs really well, I switched to Synthetic Oil and had to replace the serpentine but it doesn't smoke and pulls really well.

edit: I guess that really wasn't relevant looking back, whoops!

Nice looking car.But you can't tell from the picture what it's history is.
If you want a driver 88K is not a whole lot of miles, but if you want to modify it -cam,header's head's,ect-without a rebuild it is a lot of miles.
Don't think I would pay over book.

Just bought a 95 T/A with 107,000 miles, runs and drives perfect, love it only problem it had was the famous intake leak, which I already fixed and left headlight motor grind which I fixed for free using Brents free headlight fix. IMO price kinda high, wouldnt give more than $6000 for it. I also have a 95 Z28 that I have owned for several years with 131,000 miles been good to me until this April when it blew a head gasket. I would love to be driving a LT1 with less than 100,000 miles.

Depends on how the car was treated and maintained.

I just got mine about 4 months ago and she had 149,000 on her. I fixed the intake and oil filter mount leaks and changed all the fuilds even the brake fuild, Opti, water pump while it was off and new wires and plugs and she is great. She has uses no oil. I am getting readly to install mac headers and the Delteq system.
If the person before you changed the oil and was a little nice to her, you have a lot of happy miles ahead of you.

Good luck.

88 isn't bad if its been properly maintained...don't let the 6 speed scare you...I beat on my 6 speed a LOT less then I did my auto's. I just dont feel like downshifting most of the time, so if I were in an auto I"d just nail it...in the 6 speed I just hold my gear...and from what I've read a lot of folks are like this. Plus 6 speed > Auto for daily driving in my opinion.
