847 or 230/236???

Looking to put a set of Lloyds heads on my 50k LT1.. they will have double springs and larger valves plus the full port and polish job..

Question I have is, which one of these two cams should I go with?? I am running a set of self-aligning 1.52 pro-magnums right now with 6k on them.. if possible I would like to just transfer them over to the new heads and not spring for the 1.6s..

Car is a six speed with 3.42s.. it just dynoed 288 hp @ 5100
329 tq @ 3500.. it has an electic wp, ATI superdamper, headers, holley 52mm, and adjustable fpr..

Thanks for any input...

if u want your car to be well mannered on the street.. go 230/236...
GM847 is really aggressive cam...

I know i wouldnt like it for a weekend driver

If i was going to the track every weekend to wup the hell out of people I'd like it.

Yeah definitely, the 847 is a different cam than the 230/236. Depends on your applications, the 847 is bad a$$ though. I want it.

mmmm, so the 847 is too much for daily use?? I will have access to a mail order tune and then be able to follow it up with some dyno tuning time.. the car is daily driven for now while I am in grad school..

Thanks for the input.. anyone else??

There are people on here with daily driven 847 cars. The gas mileage isnt that great I dont think, but it can feasible. I am seriously considering one over the winter, and I would drive it all the time in the summer. Just have to be able to afford it.

I guess the next question is, is a 50k bottom end stout enough for the rpm beating that this cam requires??

thanks again..

Some bottom ends will hold, others wont. My 847 went in the car with 68ish thousand on the clock. So far so good, daily driver. 4.33 gears and 24-26mpg highway.

HOWEVER, i would reccomend against the 847 unless you are planning gears in the near future (4.10+) The 230/236 is still going to want gears, but not as badly as the 847

i love my 230/236 cam. i have stock heads and ran the times in my sig. i drive it every day and it works great with 3.73 gear. 4.10's with a 2800-3200 stall would be great. or with a 6 speed. great cam IMO

Julian,
might also want to consider the 233/239. I just installed it in my car and I really like it. Driveability has been great too.

Here's a link to my thread.

The mod bug isn't leaving you alone, is it?

nope! The car is setup well enough to handle the extra so I thought why not step up to run with the big dogs

plus of course the funds became available...
