pump gas you should be around 8:1 DCR, maybe just a touch higher with aluminum heads. 8.7 is race gas territory.

FWIW,
My last engine, 383 ci, 650+ hp, was right on the mark.... 9.0 DCR. Never ran it on anything but premium PUMP gas.

I usually don't run head cam kits that high. (ie LE stuff)

You can do it, it just takes some fine details and at some point it will rattle so a good knock sensor or AWESOME tuning is needed.

Re: Is 8.7 DCR to high for pump gas?

I know several that are running 9.5-9.6 on the STREET and with 92 octane.
I will be running 9.1 and MG already has run 9.0 on pump gas Soooooooo what ya think.
If it rattles ya can always get a boost timing retard with a **** on the dash and turn down the timing a couple of degrees on very hot days and turn it back up to race at night.
Don't think ya gonna have a problem with 9.0 or below.
