'71 Nova LT1 H/C Swap COMPLETE!
I'm pretty new to this site but I just wrapped up a head and cam swap on my LT1/4L60E powered Nova. I picked up a set of LE2 GM aluminum heads and paired it up with LE's 218/224 cam.
The LT1 was pretty much bone stock with the exception of the 1LE elbow, 52mm TB w/ coolant bypass, GMPP 1.6 RR, 160deg thermostat, crank power pulley and hooker headers.
When doing the cam and heads, I also put in a MSD 6AL, new timing set and upgraded to a MSD blaster coil. I also had my headers Jet-Hot coated, which turned out super nice. If you guys ever decide to go the Jet-Hot route, give Kevin Pell a call, he is awesome.
I am scheduling a dyno tune next week and can't wait to see the numbers. The previous dyno produced 247hp/266tq, so it can pretty much only go up from there!
Anyway, here are some pics to make you jealous over the amount of room in the Nova engine bay. I can torque with no interference, drop headers right on in, I can even crawl on in there and sit on the radiator support, LOL. I did have to take the bolt out of the motor mounts and jack the motor up a couple of inches to remove and install the cam.

Those are Canton Valve Covers that have been polished. I kind of wish that they hadn't been polished because they are a PITA to keep nice.
Thanks. When I went back and looked, I figured they were the Canton covers because of the notch for the alternator. Have you tried the Mother's Billet Polish? That seems to produce a longer lasting shine, at least on my Weld ProStars.
Wow.... That is incredible. My 95 z28 is the Quasar Blue, so blue LT1s definitely draw my eye. I'm guessing the paint is aftermarket. Did you do it yourself? Anyway, great job on the build and car. It looks fantastic!
No, I hate to say this because I have built my previous 3 cars, but I bought this one as is and the upgrades listed are the first work that I have done. As a matter of fact, the pic you see is at Lake Michigan when I bought the car. I flew up and drove it back down to Louisiana.
I was in the process of building a '69 Camaro, Camaro's are my first love. My wife was pregnant, I was in a feud with my paint and body guy and then an offer came that I couldn't refuse on the unfinished '69. So, I jumped on it and a few weeks later I was talking about how I really love the 68-74 Novas and how now that the Camaro's have gotten so ridiculous, the Novas would be the next hot ticket. Well, I stumbled on to this one, and for giggles called the guy offered a little over half of what he was asking, to which he replied, can you be here this weekend? LOL.

Haha! Well heck, I wish I could have gotten mine for a little over half. But hey, it works. Yeah, Camaros are definitely my first love. When I was in my middle teens I thought Mustangs were hot, but I was so misled in my ignorance. But yeah, that's a seriously awesome car. You should definitely get it into some car shows.
