#7 Plug Boot rubbing header primary

pacesetter shorties --> plug boot #7 is right up against the header primary, but only the tip of it. So far, about 2 weeks now, it hasnt burned it at all from what i can tell, however i do not drive the car much. Need recommendations on best boot protector.

Thanks

It should not be directly touching the primary at all, and unless those headers are designed weird, I'd say they werent made right.

Go to thunder racings site and look for 1200 degree protectors...like $40 for 8 IIRC. They work perfect

Same exact problem I had...but I burnt through two of them. I finally went with accel header plugs and that has taken care of the problem. Probably about a 1/4" air space now. Let me know what your new dyno numbers are...I am curious cause I noticed a huge difference after my install....more than I thought I would.
Opps...just saw your sig...the accel plugs are platinums..which you can't run with NOS. I am probably going to add the bottle myself at which time I will take the drivers side off and introduce it to my hammer..

Yeah the 1200 degree boot protectors WILL NOT WORK if the boot/wire is in direct contact with the header....ask me how I know...

I went with the Accel shorties also to get a gap in there.

I thought of Accel plugs as well, and would do it, except for nitrous, i have heard they are copper however...i will check.....Joseph of TSP is working of the car as I type, and i will post up what we did to help any of you out.

problems we will tackle tonight
1.) Passenger side O2 will not thread in nor start to thread in
2.) #7 Plug boot
3.) primary rubbing steering column shaft

Will let everyone know late late tonight or early tomorrow.

Thanks,
Bo

pull the steering shaft out, and take a BFH (big f'in Hammer) to the tabs where it rubs...down near that rag joint correct? Just make 'em lay down flat. Thats all I did, works fine

OK ALL IS GOOD!!!

1.) Passenger side O2 will not thread in nor start to thread in
Instead of retapping it, 18mm taps are hard to come by, Joesph drilled on the first thread and created an opening thread, i guess u could say, so the O2 would thread in....problem solved!!

2.) #7 Plug boot
Little bit of a pain in the *** to get off the plug with header on, but i didnt want to pull it off, so we just wrestled with it, got it off, and put some heat insulator around it....got it back in there....we'll see how well it works.

3.) primary rubbing steering column shaft
This was the fun one! After thinking it over, we decided not to dimple the header or grind anything, but to loosen the 3 10mm screws located at the base of the column under the dash. After loosening them just enuff so the shaft would move, Joseph wedged in a crobar and gave everything enuff clearance. I tightened the bolts back up, pulled the crobar out, and all is better!

I hope this can help some of you out there having probs w/ pacesetter shorties. I will be dynoing it here very soon and will be sure to post those results.

Bo
