7.200 or 7.150 pushrods

which should i use with LE2 heads and a .26 head gasket? he said i would lose about .050" so i was wondering if i should go with the 7.150" pushrods when installing the heads/cam

I would ask Lloyd or Bret themselves...they'd know best.

You need to check your pushrod geometry, using the same type of the lifter that you intend to use for the engine when you do the final assembly. Don't just go by what you heard from others.

When I did my 383 with Lloyd's heads, I used CC High Energy lifters which are supposed to be stock replacement lifters. Well just by looking at them I could see that the lifter cup was much different than the stock GM lifter cup. I took two apart and put in brass washers to make them act like solid lifters. Then I assembled one of the valve trains using checking springs in place of the actual springs that would be used, and checked the geometry with an adjustable pushrod. If you don't use the checking springs, you run the risk of crushing the threads on the pushrod checking tool. I did this on a couple of cylinders. As it turned out, the stock pushrods were way too long. I used the GM Hi-Tech #7937's which, as I recall, are 7.050".

Yeah, it's kind of tedious, taking all that stuff apart, installing the checking springs, puttting it back together, checking the geometry, taking it apart, making an adjujstment, put it back together, checking it again, and again, etc.,etc. But it's a lot easier to do it now than to have to take it apart later to fix it.

Correction to my first post. I used Comp Cams Hi Tech pushrods, not GM.

Yep gotta check the geometry. You'll ethier end up with bent pushrods, you could have too short pushrods and loose out on lift or you could just end up with the perfect lenght pushrod....most of the time the last one isn't what happens.

Re: 7.200 or 7.150 pushrods

Just FYI. When I was doing the geometry checking, I thought about checking the length of the original stock pushrods that came out of the engine (from GM as it was assembled at the factory). I made a fixture to set up the stock pushrod in and used the Comp Cams pushrod checking tool to determine the actual length of the stock pushrod. THE STOCK PUSHROD WAS 7.150" !! I alway heard that they were 7.200". Just goes to show you, you can't believe everything you hear.

I learned an expensive lesson with regard to pushrod length checking...it is crucial, it is a pita, and it is crucial...did I mention crucial? If you cannot do it, find someone who can, and who understands what correct geometry actually is.

well..im going to have to guess...im doing a gm 847 and the milled(slightly) heads from LE and smaller head gaskets. so hopefully the 7.2 will work

Why guess? It doesn't take that long, and you could likely borrow a checker (I did).
