58mm TB question

First, which is more preferred, the Holley or BBK brand 58mm?

Will I have to make any modifications, or will this 58mm TB bolt right on to everything? I have a 52mm right now. Will my elbow still fit? Isn't it the holes that are just larger and not the part the elbow goes around? Even though it is a different casting?

I have heard some people have problems w/ idle, etc. This car has ported LT4 heads, 306CC, etc. So that means obviously I have the LT4 intake, which I believe is 52mm. I will eventually bore out the intake to match, but do I have to do it right away, before I bolt it on??

Thanks, I hope I can get some good info on the 58mm.

For what its worth, holley and BBK are the same company. Go with what's cheaper. On a SIDE note: the holley's seem to be of higher quality for some reason.

Save up for an AS&M

Who sells the Holley?

I seen the BBK in Summit for 309.88.

Re: 58mm TB question

cheapest i've seen the holley go for is like 380.00, i got my bbk 58mm from jegs for 310. the throttle body will bolt up w/o porting the intake to match, but then ur not really gaining what you could. i had idle problems, i just had to play with my IAC motor a bit. the stock elbow will fit.

Re: 58mm TB question

Yeah, I thought about going with a BBK, and heard that I would have to work
w/ the IAC.

I would port the intake the rest of the way, Brent Franker has a great way on his site. But I just couldn't do it right this moment.

Thanks for the replies, I hope to get more.

I assume that you have headers.

Yes, Hooker LTs.

I should have mentioned this is a heavily modified car.

Thanks!

I could be wrong here but I think the "main" company is Holley. Holley then owns a ton of smaller companies... Hooker being one of them and I didn't realize BBK was one too but if you say so Anyway, my point is that all these companies are individually run from what I understand and a BBK is NOT a rebranded Holley. In some cases with companies like this that "overlap" you can get the same product but just with a different name. I don't believe this is a case like that though and the BBK tb is not the same as a Holley tb. Anyway, just wanted to mention that since it kinda sounded like you were saying just get the cheaper one because they are made by the same company

I'd go with AS&M. I have heard mixed reviews on the Holleys as far as plug and play. They also put out a nice 54 MM if that interests you.

Re: 58mm TB question

I just bought a BBK. I hope it works good for me. I've heard good and bad about BBK, i've also heard some good and a lot of bad about Holley. AS&M's are high dollar but seem to have no problems. I'm gonna try the BBK and if it sucks i'll just ebay it and get something else, but i can't justify paying $150 more for an AS&M. Also i just installed Comp R lifters on my Z so i ported my intake while it was off in preparation for the 58mm tb. The porting took a while and made a lot of shavings. I know brent made it work but i don't know if i could sleep at night thinking of all the metal that might of made it into the intake. After i was done porting it i took it out and powerwashed it for 5 mins in every port and still had worries about slapping it back on the car.

Re: 58mm TB question

I just bought a holley 58mm. I have had a 52mm AZ S&M for 5 years with no trouble but I have been told from several people that the holley can be adjusted to correct slip blms. The holley only has one problem that I have heard about and thats the butterflys sticking on some of them which is supposed to be easy to fix

BBK and Edelbrock are the same company....Holley isn't related to either one.

Re: 58mm TB question

You'll need to open up the holes in the intake manifold to take advantage of the 58 MM. These are the holes where the TB mounts.

The major issue I had with my Holley was I had to slot the TPS sensor holes to get the voltage where it was supposed to be. Other than that it works great.

The 58 MM Holley is the same dimensions externally...Your existing elbow will work.

The holes behind mine already were the same.
Ditto on the TPS voltage though.
My Holley 58mm was the polished one and the stock elbow split bout and inch befor it fit. Was enough slipped over it that the clamp sealed it.

BTW the Holley is a nice TB
