58mm AS&M

Hey guys, I have a basically stock LT1.. I have a 58mm AS&M throttlebody...30#SVO injectors.. a few performance parts, but nothing to really affect the horsepower. Would the 58mm be too big? If so, what size should I use?

Stay with the stock TB; even mildly modified engines won't really benefit from a larger TB.

the opening on the intake is only 52mm,you have to open it up to 58mm.

Re: 58mm AS&M

Well, I wouldn't BUY a 58mm TB for a mostly stock engine, but you already have one.

You would need to open up the front of the manifold of course, and get your computer reprogrammed; although that's mainly for the 30# injectors.

In THEORY you can't have too large a TB on a fuel injected engine, but drivability may be an issue for you; and I'm talking about throttle tip-in.

Personally, I think you might be better off trading your 58 for a 52 and using that instead. It's still more than you need for your mostly stock engine, but less hassle in terms of the manifold issue.

Re: 58mm AS&M

Thanks for the advice. When I bought the AS&M, I was gonna go pretty modded, but have decided to stay relatively stock. I guess, I need to try and trade for a 52mm now. Dwayne

Re: 58mm AS&M

You won't see any benefit from the 52mm TB on a stock setup either as the TB is not limiting your power. Sell or trade your 58 for something you can use.

Re: 58mm AS&M

i've got a 383 with a cc306 cam and i'm running a stock unit for now. it's not hindering mee too much, and i'm still making around 450 hp. when i get the new rockers and other gadgets on i'll swap over to a 52mm. the bigger ones are more for serious power or power adders.

Re: 58mm AS&M

no, they and the 93 camaro's have a different TPS and throttle linkage. it won't work. you can makeshift it to work, but the effort could be spent somewhere else...like porting your heads
