52mm throttle body?
52mm throttle body?
I can get one really cheap, is it worth it. Alot of the past threads have said don't worry about it spend money else where. Well, I have run across a deal, so should I get it and will it help me any. Every little bit of hp helps.
It depends on what power you plan on making in the future. An aftermarket TB on the LT1 isnt needed until you start making a good bit more power than stock so if you plan on putting down some ponies, grab it up, otherwise, I would save your pennies.

I got a deal and bought one too. Probably won't see any performance improvemets by bolting it on, but I like to tinker so I bough it anyway. Sooner or later I do heads (or FI), cam and headers.
It isn't gonna add much now, so don't get it.
Save money for gears and headers first.
If you do a head and cam deal, then just buy the tb after that. It's not like it's gonna choke up the cam and heads so much that you don't feel any power, but you'll at least feel a noticeable gain when you do bolt the tb up.
And if youre gonna bother with heads, match the intake to a 58 mm tb so you can take full advantage of the porting- I'm pretty sure a shift kit or tuning and a tranny cooler could fix any shifting problems youd have with wierd shifts...

If it's a good deal and quality part, then it's a good deal so just get it. You don't have to put it on now, just wait for h/c. How good of a deal are we talking about? Maybe the price isn't AS good as you think and you can jump on a deal later down the road.
I only have one cause I got it barely used and a lot cheaper. I couldn't pass up the deal. If the TB cost more, I wouldn't have even thought about buying it. To the question if you need it or not...then no, you don't. Not now at least. Like someone else said, I would invest in headers first. The stock 48mm TB is proven to be a good piece and can handle a lot of power. But like I said, I only did it cause it was a good deal. You aren't going to notice a SOTP gain and probably won't pick up much at all on the dyno.
