5200-5900 rpm ignition miss???

As you guys can see, my ignition system seems to have a flaw. I have more than enough fuel (i.e AF), but I am getting an intermediate miss up top.

IGNITION SETUP:

Plugs: NGK 4091 (old, will be replacing this weekend)
Wires: Taylor Thundervolts 10.4mm (great shape)
Opti: Fairly new, 5k miles
Coil: MSD Blaster (15k on it)
ICM: (Never been replaced)
MSD Digital 6, new.

Anything else to look for? Thanks Guys!

Re: 5200-5900 rpm ignition miss???

my MSD killed my new opti and had a 5000-5500 miss, turned out the rotor was split and had burnt traces in the cap.

but if it were the opti, which only has 5k miles on it, wouldnt it break up everywhere, not just at a certain rpm?

Optis can show signs of failure in different ways. Some fail just like yours and show no signs of failure otherwise.

I can tell you right now that you are not. Besides it's not happening at peak power anyway.

Re: 5200-5900 rpm ignition miss???

It could several things or a combination...

1) Plug gaps are too wide, gettting blown out...
2) Opti is crapping out at high RPM. you can see cross firing and arc burns on the cap. You may need a DIS (Delteq or LTCC).
3) Knock Retard is having a hissy fit and pulling timing hard (noise sensitive)
4) MAF is maxing out and the PCM is defaulting to Speed Density mode (SES P0103/P0101).
5) Coil is too weak
6) any combo of above or other unidentified issue

try to program it out first with timing, fuel and Knock retard settings.

I had the same issues and for me it was the COIL. It only happend above 5k and was a total drop in power, and started to happen shortly i replaced the coil with an elcheap no name brand coil. Replaced the cheapo coil with a new GM one and it was fine.

Lol, i am having the same problems. Let us know what fixes yours??

Stock opti on mine(rusted over wont turn by hand) but new MSD rotor and cap.
New gm coil (just bought three days ago)
New msd wires
New ngk spark plugs (Lloyd's race plugs)

I have a stumble at 4200rpm then a HUGE stumble (not a mis or hesitation) IT DROPED 150RWHP ON THE DYNO IN 100RPMS THEN jumped back up 150rwhp in 100rpms.

I'm going to change my opti out this weekend , i'll post my results

Good luck with your, be sure to let us know.
