#5 wire arching, why me......

Well, after chasing down a problem of when it is wet outside my car runs like crap and misses, I tracked down the problem.

I could hear a ticking sound like a huge arc, so i put the car on ramps and went underneath when it was running. I found that the #5 wire(the top wire on the opti driver side) was arching to the air pump metal bracket, just a huge arc. This is with new wires to, I assume when it gets wet it arcs even more. So, I wrapped it up with electrical tape and no arc for now, but still why do all the wires I use SUCK. They shouldn't arc. IT looks like the spark was jumping where the wire meets the rubber boot. What is the best wires money can buy, spare no expense...............

Also, I raced a new stang and got beat on the top end yesterday, is the arcing I observed almost like losing a cylinder?? My car seemed to be doggish.

When I did plugs and wires after the header install, I was chasing this down for weeks. i finally eliminated the problem by removing the metal boot shields and using taylor firesleeves in their place. No more arcing.
