5 points and stock belts, how to have both

What is the best way to have 5 points (shoulder harness bolted to crossbar) along with the stock seatbelts. Can you attach them in the same bolts as the stock lapbelt, or should I drill new holes and run threaded steel plates under the car?

Im confused. You used the stock lap belt as part of the 5point, i think you might have a typo in there, or else im not getting it. I want to retain my whole stock seatbelt system for daily driving which requires a bolt on the left and right side of the seat for the lap part of the belt. But the 5 point also requires a bolt on the right and left side of the seat for the lap portion of the belt.

What i need to know is can you hook the 5point lap belt in with the stock lap belt on the same bolts, or do there need to be separate bolts?

When I tried to do both the lap bolt wasnt long enough for both. I just deleted the regular for the time being and just used the 5 point.

Sorry if I wasn't clear - I used my stock lap belt bolts. In other words, yes I did hook the lap belts for my harness into the same bolt as my stock lap belt.

This was a G-Force harness.

You can also get an eye bolt (typically from the same folks that sold you the harness) that replaces the stock bolt. Then the stock belts sandwich under it like they do in the stock setup, and you can use the clip-on brackets on the harness, into the eye bolt.

I also use the STOCK BOLTs and mount in the stock location piggy backed with the stock lapbelts.

You will have to slightly drill out the 5pt mounting plate for it to slip over the stock bolt.

The shoulder harness is held in place with a Harness bar that mounts in place of the rear seat belts.

Ok, thanks for the replys. I just thought of this, what do you think of using just the lap belt of a Camlock 5point harness for daily driving, and removing the stock seatbelt. Do you think the LAW would have a problem with this, I wouldnt think so since older cars never had shoulder straps?

I like the eye bolt idea, do you have any more info on that?

I'm sure using the harness lapbelts on the street would be illegal (they're not DOT approved), but whether the law would catch up to you or not is anyone's guess....

Turns out there is a standard thread, on apparently all US cars, for those bolts that hold the stock belts in. So that makes it very easy to come up with a single eye bolt. Like I said, check with whomever sold you the harnesses, they may carry them. I may have a pic of the setup at home somewhere, if it helps... The only issue tat might come up is whether the eye bolt bumps into the seat you're using, because the clearance down there (on the outside of the seat) is pretty tight.

Ahh, gotchya, NHRA approved but not DOT. Hmm...Yeah if you have a picture of the eyebolt setup let me know Id like to see that. If not I think i might try to just run them off the stock bolts, or get new ones, or weld something else in there, I dont have the harnesses yet, but Im getting the rollbar installed in a few weeks so I needed to know whether or not to weld two more bolts into the floor for the harnesses.

I installed my 5 pt. system independent from the stock belts. Mainly because I wanted the angle of the lap belt to be within Simpsons specs. (angle to the hips). I used the Simpson eye-bolts because of the lack of a seam in the manufacturing process and the size of the bolt itself. I would not recommend using anything other than what your perferred belt manufacturer recommends as far as any hardware you install. I like the Simpson belt configuration because the shoulder harness joins into a "Y" and then attaches onto the crossbar. I had AUTOPOWER belts prior to the Simpsons and I do like their camlock set-up better than the Simpson style but the autopower shoulders are separate belts after they go over your shoulders and I had a custom belt made to prevent them from ever separating behind the seat while attached to the crossbar. I wear my 5 pt. daily and have been stopped twice for tickets while using the 5 pts. and never a word was said about the use of the 5 pt system. I like the clips that attach to the eye-bolts because I can remove the complete 5 pt system very quickly if needed for cleaning the floors etc. I suggest you pick a manufacturer and look at their installation directions. For drilling any holes the seats are easily removed and you can get your belt placement exact according to the directions you choose to go with.
