5.5rpm shift into 4th bang?

Hi i have a 96 Z28 M6. The day started off by me taking my MAF off to see it the screen was dirty or what not, since i was bored. i put everything back on correctly and i go for a ride to see how shes running. At first i was just driving regular and everything was fine, then i noticed when i got high on the RPM's like 4-5.5 around it wasn't pulling like she usually does. I thought to myself that was weird? So i tried it again and then another time just to see if it was just my imagination or something. Well is was still not pulling like it was before. I was in 3rd gear pretty much redlining i dont know exactly but i think i shifted at 5.5 or a little higher. When i slammed it into 4th and let the clutch loose it made this Bang and my tires didnt like locked up , but squeeled. Automatically i pushed the clutch right in and put it in Nuetral and coasted. It felt like i blew my trans or something, but it was able to be driven home. Now the engine has a rumble to it when its at idle and the motor isn't as quiet. I am making an appointment at the local chevy shop tomorrow to get it looked at. I was just wondering it any of you guys have an idea what that was?

-thanks for your help jon
