Dose anybody have any idea on whether or not we can use the
4l65-E tranny on our cars, and if the pcm needs to be reprogrammed.I hearded this trannys are alot stronger than the 4l60-E.

They use these in the Escalade, and I think the Silverado SS. They come with the AWD tailshaft I believe.

If a 4L65-E is smaller than a 4L80-E, it should fit with some modification at most. There is at least one individual out there who has a 4L80-E in his Fbody--do a search, might find it. I recall reading his post and he had to do some cutting--might have been the Advanced Tech forum.

a couple of guys did the 4l80e swap it will fit in the tunnel with a little hammering to fit the cooling lines not bad it will bolt up but you need to control it with an after market computer due to the differnt sensors inside the trannsmission the computer is made by tci it cost 1000 dollars! the transmission its self is cheap and their is high performance rebuild kits. only draw back is the high parastic drive train loss and the weight of the trans it weighs 100 pounds more i think you only need to do this swap when working with a high boost motor or large doses of crack thats my 02 on it

I think the 4l65e's only difference is the reaction gearset. It has 5 pinion gears instead of 4. It will fit in the factory 4l60e case. It is used behind the 6.0 trucks and I think the H2. GM dealers should have the parts.

Does this extra pinion gear provide extra strength? Would it be compatible with our LT1 cars?
