I had a single pattern cam (240/240 .560 .560 112 LSA) in my 396 and that bitch would burn the tires off the rims at 50+ mph and go sideways faster than you could say OHMYGODWE'REGONNAFUC*INGDIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 11111

I'd get the 58mm TB or Monoblade, a set of Comp R lifters, the AFR Hydra-Rev Kit, thinner head-gaskets to raise compression, and run your Borla wide-open.

im thinking of getting the monoblade....What gains would the Comp R's give me? I was thinking of getting the hydra rev in the future, and my borla lives open!!

Your factory lifters will take you to 600-650FWHP @ 7000RPM's with the right springs. Most of the stories you hear about factory lifters are caused by valve springs not the lifters.

The AFRs have a distinct advantage over stock ported heads on the exhaust side. My AFRs wher just cleaned up and flowed a little over 200 cfm from .500 to .700 lift on the exhaust side without a pipe, adding a pipe put the numbers over 220 cfm from .550 on up. The velocity was also better than a set of Brodix track 1s the machineshop had setting there fully ported.

While I can't attest to the velocity my heads are putting out, I can verify that my heads are legit and were flowed on an independent bench from the original porters. And they're flowing a constant 203 on the exhaust side from .500 to .600. Sounds a bit like your AFR heads. And yes, that's without a pipe.

The places where I've seen the biggest AFR gains is in the area above the .550-.600 range where the LT1 head, stock or ported, quits flowing. A smaller AFR head (190,195) is somewhat comparable to a max effort stock ported lt1 casting.

Either way, they're still not close enough on the split to really be able to make full use of a single pattern cam.

Sounds like some of you need better tires and suspensions

240/240 @ .050 is a little cam for a 396

Oh don't get me wrong, I know ported LT1 heads can flow over 200 cfm on the exhaust side. I don't doubt you there at all.

But TPIS built this cam to go with their ported AFR heads.

Ah, see, you didn't say that before......I gotcha. That cam was designed with those heads in mind. It all makes sense now.

I almost ran the TPIS cam he is using but the price is what kept me away (375 plus shipping!!!). I talked with TPIS extensively about it and they said that the cam was matched to the heads flow, and that the opening point of the exhaust was set to enhance filling. They also said an LT1 with 1 3/4 LTs and a free flowing exhaust nullified the poor exhaust flow of the motor.

I like my 847, but I would like to try the TPIS cam in question sometime just for giggles.

I think he did mention it earlier, unless the post above ^^ is talking about something else.
