4130 rods...
4130 rods...
I've been planning on tearing my stroker open to change a few things that could stand improvement. While I was looking through documentation and balance sheets to choose what parts to buy I decided that since I had a 4340 crank and splayed caps, I might step up to some h-beam rods from the scat I-beam rods I have now as well as change the pistons for more compression. I found that the box that I purchased the rods with was marked 4340, but some papers that were with my rods say 4130. Should this concern me at all strengthwise? I dont know yet if I can afford the new rods and haven't had a problem with my scat rods yet, but I dont want one to break on me. I'm only looking at making maybe 430 rwhp and spinning up to around 6500 MAX. Thanks
Re: 4130 rods...
Those Scat I beams are fine for what you are looking to do. Certain ones come with different bolts tho....you can always upgrade the bolts if you are worried. I believe they are a good bit lighter than the H beams, and are plenty strong.
Re: 4130 rods...
i have scat i beams that are 4340. they will handle plenty. almost all, if not all stock small block rods are forged anyways. not as good of a meterial as 4340, but they are forged. stock lt1 rods will make great for budget builds. usually, stock lt1 rods are rated to around 500fwhp. so scat i-beams will definately do you good. they are a light piece and can be confused with stock very easily. opt for the good arp studs. i believe their good ones are the 12 point nutted ones, but i have 6 point nuts and they hold fine
