400sb w/lt1 heads?

at work waistin time the other day i came across an article about using lt1 heads on a old smallblock. something about filling two quarter inch collant holes in the center of the head front and back all the rest matches up . anyway get a 400sb mod the heads get a SBC elec waterpump and/or accesory belt drive system.. use an lt4 intake or in my case maybe a custom setup of some type, 600+n/a 400ci AFR LT4 215 RR heads, sheetmetal intake etc. sounds like a nice project to me.. how much work is really in it though? optin 2 would be build a bulletprof 383 and the 215cc RR heads. oh btw engine management would be in the mix too so that wouldnt be an iuuse.

Why go through all the trouble to use LT1 heads on a 400 SB? Just use a nice set of aftermarket heads (you're going to have to drill them for the steam holes), convert an LT1 intake to use a distributor and get an aftermarket computer management system. For even more fun, you could use an aftermarket block with a 4.125+ bore and potentially get a small block 454 engine. How's that for a sleeper project?

Almost forgot, you're going to need a new belt system and accessories, unless the LT1 hub/balancer can be made to work on a gen 1 small block.

Thats a cool idea but, I'm going to have to agree and say SBCs have so many heads out for them. Seems like this would be sort a waste of time. But it is a cool idea and has possibilties.

On my supercharged 406(400 smallblock), I've had really good luck with angleplug edelbrock performer RPM's with 2.02/1.60. The valves are also bigger than what would come in an LT1 and were only 939.00.You still have to drill steam holes for the 400 block in them also.(400's don't have water jackets between cyl, they have "siamesed" solid iron web in between with steam holes to relieve the pressure.
