I dyno'd 384rwhp before tuning with a 220/226 Joe O. cam and Lloyd Elliot heads. It should be right at 400rwhp now with tuning. I'll hit the dyno again in a few weeks when the new tranny goes in.

Comp 987's would work fine but need machining. I like bigger springs because they're more stable at higher RPM and an equivalent single or smaller diameter spring. But opening up the spring pockets and crap on heads can be a PITA is you aren't equipped for it.

Combination motorsports sells a spring that drops right in that should work fine. But I'm pretty sure the Comp 987 is good up to .600" lift. Dunno about the CM spring.

Thinking about giving it a shot????

I'd just say to call comp or crane or whoever you want to buy springs from and ask them directly what the recommendation would be. Preferably comp because of their familiarity with the cam and the ramp rates on the lobes.

when i finally go with a cam ill be keeping my heads stock and tossing in a decent cam (probably the 224/230) Maybe ill add some 1.7's as well...couldnt hurt

Comp will probably suggest the beehive springs. They are a little more expensive than regular springs though.

Thats what I would suggest. A little better valve control. It has been proven they provide power increase over the conventional comp springs. But, I would talk to Comp first, CM, or someone who has an idea about them and that cam with 1.7s.

Prolly cuz of the smaller diameter retainer keeps the valve train light weight.

I don't think the beehive springs require any machining.

ok, i was thinking some AFR 210 or 220cc bare heads and MAYBE a mild port job on them. I believe this as a budget-minded setup would be pretty effective with a comp XE 227/233 cam (cmotorsports). Maybe revving to 6500rpm would really open it up on a stock-ish displacement car. The idea is to make 400+rwhp while keeping near-factory displacement.

ideas?

thanks

oh yea - this is all on 1.6 roller rockers

Just get the le2 package from Lloyd Elliot. It'll be a lot cheaper and should give you 400rwhp.
