400 crank in LT1

Planning winter project of 383 build up. Ported heads, XE 230/236 114lsa or 112 and current mods listed below.

Question is I got my hands on a 400 crank not sure of year. How can I tell? Can I use it in my LT1?

Yes it would be taken to the machine shop for balancing etc...

Please let me know. thxs

A 400 crank will work if you buy an adapter for the two piece seal crank.

IMO just buy a new Scat 3.75 cast crank. They are only a coule hudnred bucks and wont require an adapter. There are plenty on ebay

I have a cast 400 crank in my LT1 383 and the adapter for the 2 piece rear is more than $100 bucks. I cannot remember. Something like $120 or thereabouts. I just called Dal and had him send it and didn't pay attention to the price like I should have.
That's why, just like mentioned already, I should have just purchased a cast 1 piece rear scat crank and saved money in the long run.

doesn't the 400 have larger main journals that need to be cut down too?

Correct, has to be cut down to 2.45" from 2.65".

Yep, after the adapter and having the main journals ground down to the right size you are going to spend more money on a used stock crank that is less of a piece than a Scat 9000 crank and it's going to cost more to balance. Hmmm wonder which one I would do?

Thanks guys. That is something to think about. I may just consider to do heads/cam then. No matter though a 400 crank is a 400 crank thus more than 375.

thx
