I thought you didn't add the step into the equation... the mic needs to read 2.030" to have them installed at 1.880" on the heads. That's why they all went boom.

Your valve length has to be 5.010" or more overall to even have a chance of getting these springs on those heads.

i guess i just dont understand why that is, the retainer and locks fit in the mic just as they did the spring, so if the mic is taking the exact place of the spring, where does this .150 come from?

The small beehive style retainer fits inside the mic but using a regular size retainer it will set on the upper ridge not inside the mic, and the ridge is about 0.15" high.

ok thats what i was thinking, my retainer fit in there, so where is the mic measuring from? the lowered inside, or the upper ridge?

so...if its off .150, then that means i equivalently have a lift of .576+.150,
.726...with a coil bind at .650 ...and then what, the hyd lifter made up for the difference so the motor was still free to turn? am i on the right track?

You got it now...

The mic is made for the larger retainers so you have to compensate for that.

I know that you probably don't have the valves for those springs so going to a smaller beehive might be the way to go for you.

thats what it sounds like ...but im not sure the smaller beehive is strong enough...i guess im gettin longer valves...but im glad i figured this out before i broke something more expensive than springs

Hey man, go ahead and get the smaller beehives. That's what I have and they work great! My intake isn't as big as yours but my exhaust is equal and I don't have problems. A local speed shop suggested them. Btw, I have the Ts-233xr grind from combination motorsports. Our cams are kinda close. And I'm also using stock valves.

Boosted applications have to account for the boost pressure on the backside of the intake valve, there is over 2" of surface there easily so 10psi of boost will provide at least 20lbs of pressure trying to open the spring. So do not take blindly NA spring recommendations you will need a little more.
