Re: 4.3 Lt1??

that link is for an LT-1 intake. Where are you seeing 4.3l?

On a side note, there WAS a "baby lt-1" with 4.3l cubic inches used as the base engine in the b-body caprice.

Re: 4.3 Lt1??

Yeah there were 4.3L LT1 in Caprices as well. They look externally identical to the 5.7L engines.

Re: 4.3 Lt1??

All LT1's are 5.7, but there is another engine that looks like the LT1 from the outside and shares all the features of the LT1 such as reverse cooling and optispark, but smaller displacement....This engine came on the Caprices with RPO L99.

Re: 4.3 Lt1??

did the motors make any power or are they any good? a little help from my handy dandy calc. and i noticed it is about 265 CI, is it the same bore stroke as an old 265 or is it totally different?

Re: 4.3 Lt1??

Yes, all LT-1s are 5.7l...the 4.3l is acutally designated L99.

Re: 4.3 Lt1??

yeah, it looks like a smaller version of the LT1. they could have made it look better my cleaning up the spaghetti mess of hoses and wires. don't under estimate the 4.3L engines. my parents had a 4.3L TBI in an '89 S10 and you could smoke the tires at 3/4 of WOT off the line. tough ones too as my parents never really did take good care of cars and the engine had over 150K on it when the chassis rusted out. just remember the 4.3L is essentially a 5.7L with 2 cylinders chopped off. very close to the same displacement per cylincer.

Re: 4.3 Lt1??

This is a 4.3L V8 not a V6 the V6 is basically a 350 minus two cylinders but this is a smaller bore and stoke version of the LT1, the VIN code "W"(painted on the valvecover by junkyard) is what gave it away in the auction. This thing is nothing like the V6 in an S10. The b-body cam acts almost a little big in the L99, nothing off the line then around 20mph it pins you too the seat. Not a bad motor but offers no benifit over the LT1, it will rev pretty freely but the LT1 can already peak out the pcm so there is no benifit too the L99s ability to rev. One of the guys on the b-body board tried camming one and came up with anything bigger than a stock LT4 cam made it too peaky because of the small displacement. Another guy sprayed his way to 14s with one. I actually have most of the remains of an L99 in my garage I yanked it in favor of an LT1 at 110K it was in such good shape all bores had crosshatch clearly visible yet and I had wailed on it hoping it would break to give me an excuse to do the LT1 swap. If I can get one for next to nothing I will play with it since the Caprice is now a toy, I actually thought of spraying one till it quit.
